The Barcelona superstar's only point came via a penalty against Paraguay in the group stage, but his entire campaign has not been impressive.
While Messi struggled against Venezuela, goals from Lautaro Martinez and Giovani Lo Celso guided La Albiceleste to a 2-0 win for a spot in the semi-finals.
"The truth is that it's not been my best Copa America, not what I expected," Messi said, according to Marca. "There are matches that occur in this way. You cannot play a lot, it's complicated for those of us who want to do something different, to avoid rivals. "The important thing is that we won and we continue." Argentina will now lock horns with fierce rivals and hosts Brazil in the semi-finals on Tuesday.
