The South American version of the Africa Cup of Nations will start on Friday morning and will see the following five superstars come into the competition in superb form.

Lionel Messi

The Copa Amercia is one of the few tournaments the 27-year-old hasn't won yet. He came closest in 2007, when Argentina lost the final 3-0 to Brazil. He failed to score in the 2011 edition of the Copa America as his side crashed out in the quarter-finals, losing on penalties to eventual winners Uruguay. Pressure will be on the Argentine to repeat his club brilliance on international level.

Neymar

The Brazilian took part in the 2011 Copa America, scoring two goals in a 4-2 group stage match win over Ecuador, but the Selecao were eliminated 2-0 after extra-time in teh quarter-final against Paraguay. This time, however, all eyes will be on the in-form FC Barcelona treble winner to lead his home nation to the title.

James Rodriguez

The 23-year-old World Cup Golden Boot winner will play his first Copa America. So far, he has scored 12 goals in 33 national team games for Colombia and he has had a very impressive first season at Real Madrid, scoring 17 goals and assisting 18 in 46 games.

Sergio Aguero

The Argentine won the English Premier League's Golden Boot this season after scoring 26 goals in 33 league games and will take part in his second Copa America. In 2011, he scored three goals in the group stages before Argentina got knocked out in the quarter-final.

Alexis Sanchez

The 26-year-old has had a brilliant first season at Arsenal, scoring 25 goals and assisting a further 12 in 52 games. It will be his second appearance at the Copa America after scoring one goal and assisting another for Chile in 2011. The 2015 hosts lost to Venezuela in the quarter-final four years ago.
