Copa America - Group C
Result: Brazil 2-1 Peru
Date: 14 June 2015
Venue: Estadio Municipal Bicentenario Germán Becker
Goals from Neymar and Douglas Costa handed Brazil a 2-1 win over Peru in their opening Copa America clash on Sunday evening.
Peru broke the deadlock after just two minutes, as Christian Cueva pounced on a poor clearance from goalkeeper Jefferson to rifle home from 12-yards out.
However, Brazil hit back two minutes later when Dani Alves picked out Neymar in the box and the un-marked skipper headed into the far corner.
Brazil nearly went ahead in the 12th minute but Neymar's goal-bound effort was brilliantly cleared off the line by defender, Carlos Zambrano.
Dunga's side could have taken the lead in the 19th minute when Alves floated the ball in for Diego Tardelli but the striker headed over from six-yards out.
Brazil goalkeeper, Jefferson, was called upon just before the halftime break, as he got down well to keep out Carlos Lobaton's curling effort from 25-yards out.
The two sides went into the halftime break deadlocked at 1-1.
Brazil continued to dominate at the start of the second half and they nearly went ahead in the 52nd minute when Neymar rattled the frame of the goal from 20-yards out.
Substitute Douglas Costa should have made the immediate impact in the 75th minute, the winger broke free down the left but lashed a cross beyond Neymar, who had the goal at his mercy.
Dunga introduced the likes of Roberto Firmino and Everton Ribeiro with the hope bagging a winner in the final 15 minutes.
Neymar was presented with an opportunity to win the clash in the 89th minute, but the skipper placed his effort wide of the mark from inside the area, after being played in by Alves.
The Brazilians eventually clinched the three points in stoppage time, as Neymar picked out Douglas Costa in the box and the winger calmly converted past the Peru goalkeeper.
