A late goal from Dejan Lovren earned Liverpool a 2-1 win over Swansea City in a Capital One Clash at Anfield on Tuesday night.
Reds boss, Brendan Rodgers, opted to leave under-fire striker Mario Balotelli on the bench and gave Rickie Lambert a start, while Steven Gerrard and Raheem Sterling were left out of the match day squad.
The first half failed to provide a lot of goal-mouth action, as Fabio Borini's long range effort in the 35th minute proved to be the best chance of the half.
However, it was Swansea who took the lead in the 66th minute thanks to a well taken volley from Marvin Emnes from six-yards out, after being set up by Jonjo Shelvey.
Gerard Tremmel was called into action in the 75th minute, the Swansea shot-topper did well to keep out long range efforts from Coutinho and Lambert in quick succession.
Liverpool eventually leveled matters in the 86th minute, as substitute Mario Balotelli poked home from six-yards for only his second goal for the club.
The home side went on to win in it the final minute of stoppage time, as an un-marked Dejan Lovren headed home to seal Liverpool's passage into the next round.
