The 28-year-old, a first-time winner, has become the 66th different player to scoop up the accolade since the award's inception in 1956, the first Spanish player to win the Ballon d'Or since 1960 and the first Premier League-based player since Cristiano Ronaldo in 2008.
The holding midfielder proved instrumental for City as he helped Pep Guardiola's side win a fourth straight Premier League title last term. Rodri was then excellent for champions Spain at EURO 2024 too.
Second in the ranking is Real Madrid winger Vinicius Junior, who, along with his Los Blancos teammates, did not attend the awards ceremony.
The 24-year-old was rumoured to be the top contender for the accolade just earlier this month after contributing to an impressive 25 goals in 39 appearances for Real last term.
