While Yanga were able to inflict a heavy 5-1 defeat on their bitter rivals during their first league clash of the season last campaign, this past weekend, it was a much tighter affair as it was an 86th minute own goal from Kelvin Kijili that was the difference between the two sides.
This ensured that Wananchi kept their 100% start to the league season, while the Reds of Msimbazi suffered their first loss of the campaign.
Gamondi acknowledged that there was an improvement on Simba's tactics compared to their previous encounters, and gave special praise to the work former Maritzburg United boss Davids has done with the side.
"Simba have improved tactically, and it was a fantastic derby. I congratulated Coach Fadlu because it's great to have high-level derbies in Tanzania," the Argentine tactician said, as per The Guardian Tanzania.
With the Olavarria native having won all his matches against Simba, while he was elated by the result, he claimed the victory was for the fans.
"We are very happy, but this victory is for the Young Africans fans. They deserve this joy. I want to congratulate my players; they were fantastic today, following the game plan perfectly," the former Mamelodi Sundowns boss added.
He also expressed his delight at how his side overcame the strong start made by Davids' charges, and how they took control in the second half.

"We knew Simba would come out aggressively in the first 15-20 minutes, and they did create some chances. But we settled and played well," Gamondi continued.
"It was a close match, but derbies are often decided by a single moment, and today we took that moment."
