The Red Castle has struggled for form in the early part of the new campaign under the South African tactician. In the nine matches the team has played so far in the Botola Pro Inwi, they have won four, drawn two, and lost three.
This past weekend's victory over FUS Rabat seems to have done a lot to alleviate the mounting pressure on the 37-year-old in Casablanca. Former Mamelodi Sundowns striker Cassius Mailula scored a late goal that secured the record Moroccan champions a 1-0 victory away from home – their first away win of the campaign.
According to WinWin, after the win, the club's board of directors, led by president Hicham Ait Menna, held a special meeting with the Johannesburg native to inform him that he retains the full support of the club and can even make changes to his assistant staff should he wish.
Recently, there have been rumours that the North African giants are weighing up the decision to fire him, but the same report claims that Wydad's executive members asked Mokwena to work without feeling like he is on the verge of departure.
It is understood that to remain in the club's good books, he must either win the league title or the Moroccan Throne Cup, suggesting that they are not in a rush to sack the ex-Orlando Pirates boss.

Up next for the three-time African champions is a clash against Ittihad Tanger, and a win would move them within three points of the table-toppers RS Berkane.
