On Monday night, the best players and coaches from Africa were celebrated as the Moroccan city of Marrakech welcomed the elite of African football for the latest CAF Awards.
With Morocco being crowned the best men's national team of 2023, the president of the continent's football body, Motsepe, urged other nations to try to emulate what the Atlas Lions did at FIFA World Cup last year in Qatar.
"Also, Morocco, with its resounding success in the Qatar World Cup, has doubled the burden on the rest of the African teams in the future," he said, as per Kooora.
While the likes of Victor Osimhen, Asisat Oshoala, Desiree Ellis and Percy Tau were also named as winners, the South African executive also announced that the football institution would be bringing in a new award for the next instalment of the annual gala.
"In the next edition of the ceremony, we will launch an award for referees, in order to improve their performance, especially since they are an important figure in the equation of African football's success," Motsepe stated.
