The South African winger is nearing the conclusion of his current deal at the Club of the Century.
Tau has achieved significant feats with the record African champions, contributing to the team's success and earning individual accolades.
However, it seems that the Witbank native's time at the Cairo International Stadium is drawing to a close, according to former club winger Khaled El Ghandour.
He revealed that club chairman Mahmoud El Khatib held a meeting with members of the planning committee, Mohamed Ramadan and Hany Ramzy, and one of the items on the agenda was Tau's future.
The trio concluded that it would be best to try to recoup as much money as possible for the former Brighton and Hove Albion star by selling him in January.
Speaking on his programme Al-Mahwar Stadium, as per El Balad, the 54-year-old said: "During the meeting, we discussed all the files related to the football team, including departures, deals, and nominations from the scouting team.
"The foreign players' file was opened, and a decision was reached to market Percy Tau and look for an offer for him in January to sign a new foreign winger.

"The relationship between the technical staff and Tau is no longer good, and the player is not performing as expected. His departure has become necessary to bring in another foreign player."
