Earlier this week, news emerged suggesting that a date had been set for when the next election for African football's top job would be.
It is believed that on 12 March 2025, executives on the continent will decide whether or not there is a new administration that will govern football on the continent.
Up until this point, Motsepe has been coy about whether or not he will run for a second term as CAF president, but according to Le Site Info Sports, the South African philanthropist's name will be on the ballot sheet.
The same report suggests that football icon Samuel Eto'o is also planning to run for the presidency.
The current president of the Cameroonian Football Federation (FECAFOOT) has been marred in controversy in recent years, but it is understood that he retains the backing of nations such as Chad, Niger, Mali, Benin, Congo Brazzaville, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Comoros, Madagascar, Seychelles, Guinea, Algeria, and Gabon in a bid to succeed the Pretoria native.
Earlier this year, the former Barcelona and Inter Milan forward was found guilty of violating the principles of ethics, integrity, and sportsmanship as provided in the CAF Statutes after he agreed to an ambassadorial role for gambling company 1XBet.
He was consequently fined $200 000 (R3.5 million), and it is said that he may still harbour some animosity towards the ruling and that this could be a contributing factor to his decision to run for the position.
