For as successful as the Red Devils have been on the continent, they have never won a match in South Africa.
That will be a tough record to overcome on Saturday when they face one of the most storied football institutions in the country, Pirates.
One factor that the Egyptian giants have struggled with is the afternoon kick-off times they are often subjected to when playing on the southern tip of the continent.
Their captain, Mohamed El Shenawy, has previously expressed the team's discontent with always playing during the day whenever they are in South Africa. However, against the Buccaneers, it will be no different as the two sides are set to face off at Orlando Stadium in the afternoon.
In an attempt to prepare for the unfamiliar conditions, El Watan Sports reports that head coach Marcel Koller plans to conduct two to three training sessions at 15:00.
It remains unclear whether these sessions will take place in Johannesburg or Cairo, but the Swiss tactician is eager for his players to acclimatise as best as possible ahead of what will undoubtedly be a tough encounter.
