Al Ahly have reportedly agreed to ship out one of their star midfielders in the hopes of acquiring Mamelodi Sundowns talisman Teboho Mokoena.

According to Kooora, the Club of the Century has reached an agreement with Saudi Pro League outfit Al-Kholood Club over the loan of Mali international Aliou Dieng.

The 26-year-old has been the subject of much Gulf interest in recent seasons, and it now seems a move will finally come to fruition, with Ahly believed to have accepted a one-season loan transfer for the west African.

The record CAF Champions League winners are said to be agreeing to a $600 000 (R10.7 million) loan fee, with the deal not inclusive of an option or obligation to buy.

What the report also states, however, is that the club will be extending Dieng's contract for an extra year, with his existing deal running until the end of the 2025/26 season.

The Red Devils' manager Marcel Koller is said to be willing to part ways with the 36-cap Mali international as he wants to bring either Tunisia star Mohamed Ali Ben Romdhane or Mokoena to the club.

Ben Romdhane is no stranger to African club football having grown up within the Esperance de Tunis ranks, ultimately playing for the first team from 2018 to 2023 before he made the move to Hungarian side Ferencvarosi.

Ahly's interest in Mokoena has been long-running, with the Egyptian outfit having been linked with the star since the beginning of the year. As he approaches the final year of his contract at Sundowns, they are likely to try to sign him once again.

While they may be keen on landing the Bethlehem native, north African juggernauts have not formalised their interest in the player. This is according to the player's agent, Glyn Binkin, as he informed Soccer Laduma that Al Ahly have not contacted him regarding the 34-capped international.
