CAF has officially handed down its punishment to Morocco and their head coach Walid Regragui for the fight that ensued between his side and Democratic Republic of Congo at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
African football's governing body has decided to hit both the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) and the Congolese Association Football Federation (FECOFA) with $20 000 (about R377 800) fines for the scuffle that took place after their matchday two encounter.
Displeased with DR Congo captain Chancel Mbemba's time-wasting tactics towards the end of what would be their 1-1 draw, Regragui started an argument with the Olympique Marseille man that would escalate, eventually involving the entirety of both benches.
For his instigation of the dispute, the 48-year-old tactician has been suspended for four matches by CAF, two of which will be suspended, and was also given a $5 000 (about R94 450) fine.
