Liverpool's Joel Matip was the biggest star among the eight Cameroon players, who refused to honor their call-up by coach Hugo Broos.
The Indomitable Lions went ahead and lifted the trophy, and after the surprise victory, Broos couldn't resist to send a small jibe at his absentees.
"There was a lot of trouble before, players who wouldn't come with us," he said after the game, as quoted by ESPN.
"OK, it's their decision. But maybe they are saying now to themselves, 'S***! Why didn't I go with them?'"
However, Matip is allegedly not interested in returning to Broos' squad despite their recent success.
According to the Mirror, the 25-year-old, who last featured for Cameroon in September 2015, has no intention of changing his stance due to a conflcit with the previous regime.
