In January, Eric Chelle was appointed as head coach of the Super Eagles. He has only managed two matches for the West African powerhouse; however, there has already been intense speculation surrounding his future position.
The Malian coach found Nigeria in a precarious position regarding their FIFA World Cup qualification campaign, having won no games in the four matches they had played. However, Chelle has led them to a 2-0 win over Rwanda and a 1-1 draw against Zimbabwe, keeping their faint qualification hopes alive.
At the moment, they are still six points behind Group C table-toppers South Africa, and with four matches to play, it currently looks unlikely that they will usurp their rivals.
It is presumably these faint qualification hopes that have led to speculation regarding the 47-year-old's continuity in his new role.
However, a member of the NFF has set the record straight regarding Chelle's future with the national team, stating that a departure was not imminent.
"There is nothing like that," an anonymous NFF board member told The PUNCH.
"I am a board member and there has not been any issue raised about the contract of the coach. It is all fake news."

Chelle is still very much at the helm, and the aforementioned publication has stated that he is expected to head to England to meet some national team players and also recruit others who are eligible for the three-time Africa Cup of Nations winners, such as Ethan Nwaneri.
