Pirates Linked With Zambian Striker

Pirates Linked With Zambian Striker

With Orlando Pirates preparing to make significant squad reinforcements for the upcoming season, the Soweto giants have been linked with promising Zambian striker Andrew Phiri.

This comes after the club opted not to sign any players during the January transfer window, raising expectations for an ambitious recruitment drive.

Reports indicate that Pirates have already secured an agreement for Baroka FC winger Kabelo Kgositsile.

Now, attention has shifted to Phiri, who plies his trade with FC MUZA in Zambia's top flight.

The 23-year-old forward is understood to have caught the eye of the Buccaneers' scouting team and is on the radar of the Zambian national team, further enhancing his credentials.

Should Phiri join Pirates, he would follow in the footsteps of some of Zambia's finest players who have donned the black and white jersey, including Isaac Chansa, Collins Mbesuma, Perry Mutapa, and the late Justin Shonga.

Meanwhile, Zambian publication Bolanews has quoted FC MUZA's chief executive officer, Joel Kabika, confirming that Phiri may have travelled to Mzansi during the recent FIFA international break for an assessment.

"I can confirm that he is out attending trials, yes," said Kabika, as per the publication. "He will be away for the next 10 days," the official has been quoted as saying.

With Pirates eager to bolster their attacking options, Phiri's potential arrival could be a major boost for the Buccaneers as they prepare for the new season.
