Benni McCarthy started his reign as Kenya coach with a thrilling 3-3 draw against Gambia in a 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier on Thursday night.
McCarthy named two South African-based players in the starting line-up as Ian Otieno started in goal, while Brian Onyango was named in the defence.
Before McCarthy's appointment this month, the Harambee Stars had registered one win from their opening four encounters in Group F.

After a quiet first half, Kenya fell behind ten minutes into the second half as Musa Barrow bagged his second goal in the qualifying campaign.
It got worse for the Harambee Stars after the hour mark as Gambia doubled their lead six minutes later courtesy of a strike from Yankuba Minteh.
However, Kenya did pull a goal back with 20 minutes left on the clock as Michael Olunga converted a penalty.
The visiting side were back on level terms in the 76th minute as one of McCarthy's changes, Mohammed Bajaber, found the back of the net with his first goal for the national side.
Gambia thought they would have the final say as Barrow completed his brace on the night by firing past Otieno with six minutes to play, but McCarthy's side snatched a point in the 96th minute thanks to William Lenkupae's finish.
