Kaizer Chiefs' ongoing struggles in the left-back position could lead to the club fast-tracking the development of one of their most promising young talents, Kabelo Nkgwesa, the Siya crew has learnt.
The 19-year-old left-back has been making significant progress while playing for Chiefs' DStv Diski Challenge team, and his performances have not gone unnoticed.

Insiders suggest that Nkgwesa is being earmarked for a bigger role within the first team, possibly sooner rather than later.
The left-back position has been a point of concern for Chiefs following the departure of Botswana international Thatayaone Ditlhokwe to Libyan club Al-Ittihad.
Bradley Cross has appeared to be Chiefs' preferred left-back, but his performances have come under scrutiny.
The most notable criticism came after Chiefs' 4-1 loss to SuperSport United, where defensive shortcomings of the team were laid bare.
Some sections of the Amakhosi faithful have raised concerns over the ex-Golden Arrows defender's consistency and effectiveness in the role.
While Chiefs do have Happy Mashiane as another option at left-back, his impact has been limited.
Meanwhile, Edmilson Dove and Bongani Sam have both struggled with injuries, leading to the Mozambican international being deregistered by the club as he continues his recovery process.
With these challenges, Chiefs find themselves in a precarious position, lacking stability and depth in a crucial defensive area.
Enter Kabelo Nkgwesa, a player who has shown immense potential within the club's youth ranks.
His development at the DDC level has been impressive, and his ability to contribute defensively while also offering attacking support makes him a viable solution to Chiefs' ongoing left-back issues.
Promoting Nkgwesa to the first team could provide the club with a fresh and energetic option, while also allowing the youngster to gain valuable experience at the highest level.
The move would also align with Chiefs' broader strategy of developing and integrating young talent into the senior team.
Over the years, the club has been criticised for not fully utilising its youth academy, and this could be an opportunity to change that narrative.
If given the chance, Nkgwesa could follow in the footsteps of other young players who have successfully made the transition from the academy to the first team.
Ultimately, Chiefs must decide whether they will persist with Cross, continue rotating between available options, or take a bold step by promoting Nkgwesa.

With their left-back position remaining a critical area of concern, the youngster could be the answer to their defensive problems and a long-term solution for the club.
"He (Nkgwesa) is the option, and the club is working on fast-tracking his development. He is such a talented youngster with a bright future, and his time (in the first team) is coming," said the source.
