OFFICIAL: Bafana-Eligble Star Completes R9.6m Move to Ligue 1

A Bafana Bafana-eligible star, Ayanda Sishuba, has now completed a move to the French top flight for a modest fee of €500,000 (R9.6 million).

It has been officially confirmed that Sishuba has joined Rennes on a four-and-a-half-year deal from Hellas Verona in Italy.

Sishuba, who was born in Belgium to a South African father, lasted just half a season at his former club Hellas Verona, where he did not make a single first-team appearance for the Serie A side.

"Son of Asanda Sishuba, a former professional footballer, Ayanda Sishuba was destined to play with a football from an early age, beginning his journey at Mouscron at just four years old," Rennes said in a statement on their official website.

"He quickly joined Lens in 2018, where the Belgian emerged as a promising talent in Artois, consistently performing in the U19s, the Youth League (scoring three goals in six matches), and National 3 (with 12 goals and two assists).

"Standing at 1.69 metres, Ayanda Sishuba is technically gifted, precise, and agile, excelling in an attacking midfield role. He made his Ligue 1 debut against Monaco in 2023 and has since featured in eight professional matchday squads.

"Last summer, he moved to Italy to join Hellas Verona. However, having not been given an opportunity across the Alps, the 20-year-old from Tournai has chosen to return to France to continue his development.

"Here's another exciting talent for the Red and Black attacking lines. Welcome, Ayanda!"

Sishuba is among 10 new signings that Rennes made in the January transfer window. The club are currently fighting to stay in the French top flight, as they sit just two points above the relegation zone after 20 league matches played.
