At the beginning of the season, the young attacker arrived at the home of the Sea Robbers with a lot of expectations placed upon him.
His performances for Petro in the Girabola, CAF Champions League, and the African Football League, coupled with his displays for the Angolan national team during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, made him a highly touted prospect by the end of the 2023/24 campaign.
Clubs from Portugal and Turkey are believed to have taken an interest in the Luanda native, but during this past off-season, it was Pirates who successfully managed to lure Gilberto to the Orlando Stadium.
However, while he may have arrived with tremendous hype, the 23-year-old has so far failed to live up to expectations.
The skilful winger has only managed to make 12 appearances for Jose Riveiro's charges and is yet to score or provide an assist for the Buccaneers. The Betway Premiership side subsequently decided to loan Gilberto back to Petro for the remainder of the season.
Upon arrival in Angola, the attacker shed light on the struggles he faced during his brief stint in South Africa.
"It was very difficult for me to adapt and adjust to the team. I wanted to play more to show my level," the 14-capped international said, as per SuperSport journalist Karabo Phasha.
He added that he was now focused on adding more silverware to his former side's trophy cabinet.

"I promise to work hard here at Petro so that we can win titles together," he added.
