The five-time Ballon d'Or winner shocked the world in late 2022 when rumours began circulating that, after leaving Manchester United, he would sign for Saudi Arabian giants Al Nassr.
At the start of 2023, the legendary marksman made the rumours a reality as he was confirmed as the club's latest signing, inking what is believed to be the largest contract in football history, earning an alleged €200 million (R3.8 billion) per year.
That deal is now in its final six months and, should he not sign an extension, the Real Madrid icon will be a free agent once again come the end of the campaign. However, that does not seem to be the case, as according to Al Khabar, the Portuguese attacker has agreed to extend in principle.
It is understood that a number of clubs across the world, including Al Nassr's rival Al Hilal, were keen on luring the record international match goalscorer away from Riyadh, but the same report claims that Ronaldo wants to compete against the reigning Saudi Pro League champions.
It is alleged, however, that one of the conditions for the forward agreeing to prolong his stay with the Knights of Najd is that the club made assurances they would be investing heavily to bring in a better supporting cast.
