The Algerian giants were unable to carry their momentum from their previous continental match against Al Ahly, where they won 1-0, into their encounter at eSgodini, as they crashed out of the tournament's group stages for a second consecutive season.
After the encounter, Belouizdad's manager, Abdelkader Amrani, revealed that while the Sea Robbers may have been deserved winners on the day, poor officiating contributed to their downfall.
"Well, I believe if we had won at home [against Pirates], we would not be discussing our elimination from the competition," the Algerian said in his post-match press conference.
"We should have done better when we played at home, which we did not. Overall, however, we tried to play well in the 21st minute, and then, with a loose ball, they scored their first goal, and in the second half, when we came back trying to defend and reorganise ourselves, we conceded another goal under the same circumstances.
"We tried to keep the morale high by relaunching ourselves, to build up, but still it didn't work out. But again, looking at the referee, that was not a good game because when they came to our home, we were very good to them.

"But what we saw out there today was not a good image for football. The referee did not dish out any yellow cards for certain mistakes, and then my assistants were up and down trying to collect the balls because the ball boys were not returning the ball on time. So, overall, we're not going to say that Pirates did not deserve to win, but at the same time, it was not a good image for the game."
