Elimination in the first round of the Major League Soccer playoffs has seemingly led the Herons down the path of change.
Last season's Eastern Conference table toppers were beaten in the first knockout round by Atlanta United, and in an effort to strengthen their squad going into the new campaign, the club wants to sign a new major superstar.
On their books, the David Beckham co-owned side has a plethora of decorated players, including record Ballon d'Or winner Messi, Uruguay's all-time leading scorer Suarez, as well as multiple-time UEFA Champions League winners Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba.
However, this doesn't seem to be enough for the Florida-based outfit, and they want to sign another massive name.
Their only stumbling block at the moment is the league's financial fair play policy. However, following the departures of Diego Gómez, Leonardo Campana, and CJ dos Santos, as much as €4 million (R76.3 million) in annual salary is alleged to have been freed up on the club's books.
Another important factor is that a Designated Player slot has been opened. This slot allows any team in the American top flight to go above their allotted salary cap, and according to Diario AS, the player they want to fill this position is Neymar.
