According to reputed journalist Florian Plettenberg, the Red Devils have made their first move in their potential pursuit of Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres.
The 26-year-old has been in incredible form in Portugal this season, having scored 24 goals in just 21 appearances across all competitions.
The Sweden international was central to Amorim's plans at Sporting prior to the coach's United move in November, with the pair now tipped to reunite in England.
United, however, would reportedly need to raise significant funds in order to successfully land Gyokeres' signature.
The former Brighton Hove Albion forward is valued at €70 million (R1.3 billion) by Transfermarkt after contributing to an astonishing 89 goals in his last 68 games.
While Amorim has played down discussions of a possible swoop for Gyokeres, the pair enjoyed a fruitful working relationship in Portugal.
Last season, Sporting lifted the Primeira Liga title as the Swede finished the campaign with 29 goals in 33 matches.

While Amorim has forwards such as Joshua Zirkzee, Rasmus Hojlund and Marcus Rashford at his disposal in Manchester, he could see a reunion with his former striker as ideal in order to be successful in Manchester.
