With the recent retirement of Toni Kroos, Los Blancos have been rumoured to be searching for a replacement for the German midfielder.
The player being touted as a likely successor to the six-time UEFA Champions League winner is the recent 2024 Ballon d'Or recipient, Rodri.
The 28-year-old, who is a Madrileno himself, has a contract at Manchester City that runs until 2027. Speculation has been rife about Los Merengues potentially trying to lure him back to his home city instead of him extending his stay at the Etihad Stadium.
The holding midfielder was recently interviewed on Spanish radio, where he spoke about the possibility of playing for the record European champions, and he did very little to pour cold water on the rumours.
"Obviously, when Real Madrid calls you, the best club in history and the most successful, with what it means, it is an honour. You always have to pay attention. That much is clear," Rodri told Cadena SER.
The 2024 UEFA European Championship Player of the Tournament is currently sidelined for the entirety of the 2024/25 season after suffering serious ligament damage in his knee earlier in the campaign.
In his absence, the Citizens are currently embroiled in an off-pitch battle regarding alleged irregularities in their finances.

Should the Sky Blues be found guilty of breaching financial fair play regulations, the Spanish juggernauts will likely hope the deep-lying playmaker chooses not to renew his contract with City.
