During the off-season, rumours emerged that the Moroccan giants were actively trying to prise the Bafana Bafana star away from Al Ahly.
An official from the club even confirmed the reports, stating that they wanted to sign the 30-year-old. However, a deal ultimately never materialised, and Tau has spent the first part of the 2024/25 campaign still at the Cairo International Stadium.
Wydad's current coach, Rulani Mokwena, worked with the Witbank native during their time at Mamelodi Sundowns' developmental ranks, and the 39-year-old tactician has always spoken in glowing terms about Tau.
It seems that the Red Castle's boss still harbours ambitions of recruiting his former star to Casablanca because, according to El Watan Sports, the record Botola Pro Inwi champions are working on signing the reigning CAF Interclubs Player of the Year for the FIFA Club World Cup.
The same report claims that Mokwena has been in extensive discussions with the 46-capped South African international and that the player is open to making the move to Ahly's continental rivals.
It looks as though the Club of the Century have no issues parting ways with the ex-Brighton and Hove Albion star, but they appear to be waiting for an offer they regard financially suitable before agreeing to let him go.

Tau has not started a game for Marcel Koller in the month of November, suggesting that he is no longer a prominent figure in the Swiss tactician's plans.
