Sporting Lisbon manager Ruben Amorim is reportedly set to take the reins at United following the dismissal of Ten Hag.
This is according to The Athletic, who report that the 39-year-old has indicated he is prepared to accept an approach from the 20-time English champions.
The Premier League giants have wasted no time in initiating discussions with Amorim, with the club reportedly willing to activate the €10 million release clause in his existing contract.
Sources indicate that Amorim is enthusiastic about the opportunity, and United will endeavour to negotiate a deal with Sporting for the highly-rated coach.
The Sporting boss had previously been on Manchester City's radar amid the uncertainty surrounding Pep Guardiola's future in England.
Amorim has won the Primeira Liga twice as head coach, while he has also claimed the Manager of the Season award twice in Portugal, in 2021 and 2024.
United have also been linked with ex-Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez, although it is Amorim who is firmly considered the club's priority target.

Assistant manager Ruud van Nistelrooy will serve as the team's interim boss in the meantime as United continue negotiating with Amorim.
