The former Germany international called time on his playing career at the end of last season, after winning a sixth UEFA Champions League and his fourth LALIGA title.
Kroos spent a full decade at the Spanish giants, whom he joined from Bayern Munich for a fee of just €25 million (R475 million).
Despite enjoying life in Spain on and off the field, the ex-midfielder has revealed he was not one for going out with the rest of the squad after hours.
"[Laughs] I went a couple of times in the first few years," he told Marca.
"You're the new guy and you don't want to draw attention to yourself. But then... My teammates already knew me very well and they knew that it wasn't disrespectful, it's just that I don't like going out at night.
"Some like it more, others less... I told them: 'I love you, really, but you go to your dinners alone'. And they understood.
"And in the end, when there was dinner, they didn't even ask me, because they already knew the answer. They've been spectacular teammates, with whom I've shared 10 years and many things.
"And with the latest ones to come too, like Jude, Aurelien or Camavinga. They're very good guys and the last few years in terms of the locker room have been some of the best. The locker room is incredible."
