The incident occurred during Atletico Madrid's 1-1 draw with Real Madrid in LALIGA this past weekend.
Atleti centre-back Robin Le Normand, who joined the club from Real Sociedad at the start of this campaign, collided with Aurelien Tchouameni in an aerial duel during stoppage time before being treated on the field.
The club has since stated that the Spain international suffered a "traumatic brain injury" with subdural haematoma, bleeding caused by a burst blood vessel near the brain.
Atletico also confirmed that the 27-year-old will follow "the guidelines set out in the protocol established for this type of trauma".
Although it is unknown how long the defender will be sidelined for, Le Normand will most likely be absent for the remainder of 2024.
