The Frenchman has retired from football after playing only 23 minutes for Como 1907 in Italy, a decision he announced in an Instagram post on Wednesday morning.
The centre-back joined the club on a two-year deal as a free agent following his departure from the Red Devils at the end of last season.
Varane injured his knee in his debut for the club, a Coppa Italia encounter, and has now decided to call it quits at the age of 31.
The experienced defender enjoyed an incredible career at the highest level, during which he won 20 trophies in spells in Madrid and Manchester.
