Ancelotti Set To 'Axe' Mbappe, Vinicius Or Rodrygo

Carlo Ancelotti is reportedly considering dropping either Kylian Mbappe, Vinicius Junior or Rodrygo in a new formation for Real Madrid.

Coming off a 2023/24 campaign in which Los Blancos were crowned European and Spanish champions, many thought Mbappe's arrival would help the LALIGA juggernauts ascend to even greater heights.

However, so far, the team has seemingly struggled to display proper cohesion in attack with him in the team.

While Los Merengues have managed to grind out victories both in the league and the Champions League, there has perhaps been a lack of fluidity among the team, something Ancelotti is seemingly keen on addressing.

According to Marca, the Reggiolo native has conceptualised a plan that will see the Spanish juggernauts playing with better harmony, but it includes four midfielders.

This means that either one of the Brazilian duo of Vinicius and Rodrygo or the club's new French superstar Mbappe would have to be dropped in order to accommodate the extra man in the middle of the park.

It remains to be seen which of their attacking superstars is sacrificed, but one player who will be key in this new tactical adjustment is Jude Bellingham.

The Englishman is expected to fulfil his attacking duties as he did last season, but will also be given the added responsibility of helping out defensively.

The same report also suggests, though, that Ancelotti will not be using this tactic on a consistent basis, just away from the Santiago Bernabeu as well as in high-stakes games in cup competitions, and is set to start using it against Atletico Madrid on 29 September.
