The Spanish tactician has less than 12 months remaining on his current deal at Manchester City, and there have been murmurings that this campaign could very well be his final season at the Etihad Stadium.
The 53-year-old has claimed he is fully focused on trying to win a fifth successive Premier League title in the 2024/25 season, but there are those who are looking to take advantage of the uncertainty surrounding his situation with the Sky Blues.
One of those is the English Football Association. After eight years in charge, the Three Lions parted ways with Gareth Southgate following the team's 2024 UEFA European Championship final defeat to Spain.
For the time being, Lee Carsley is in interim charge of the 1966 FIFA World Cup winners, and while he has won his first two UEFA Nations League matches, against Ireland and Finland respectively, he is not expected to take the reins on a full-time basis.
According to The Guardian, the FA has already started compiling a shortlist of potential permanent head coaches, but their ideal successor for Southgate would be the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich manager.
Guardiola has expressed an interest in eventually venturing into international football, but that was when he was linked with the Brazil national team job.

The same report claims that the FA is also keen on some home-grown managers, with former Chelsea bosses Graham Potter and Frank Lampard joining Newcastle United's Eddie Howe on a list of English head coaches who could assume responsibility from Carsley.
