News breaking in England is that Manchester City have agreed a shock deal to bring back their former first-team captain.
According to The Athletic, 33-year-old Barcelona midfielder Ilkay Gundogan will be on his way back to the Premier League champions following his departure from the Etihad in 2023.
It is claimed the retired Germany international will pen a one-year deal with the Citizens, whom he represented between 2016 and last year, and captained in his final season.
Gundogan enjoyed a successful debut campaign in Spain, contributing to an impressive 19 goals across all competitions for the Blaugrana.
Betting on the new LaLiga season?
Surprisingly, however, the LALIGA giants will allow the experienced star to depart for free despite the still being two years remaining on his contract.
City manager Pep Guardiola was said to have given the green light to Gundogan's return to England earlier this week after the player was left out of Barcelona's squad for their opening match of the season.
With the signing of Dani Olmo adding competition in midfield, new coach Hansi Flick reportedly could not guarantee the ex-Borussia Dortmund man regular minutes.
Gundogan is now expected back in Manchester in the coming days to complete his return to the Etihad Stadium.
