In his first full season as head coach of the Green Eagles, the German tactician achieved a historic feat in helping Raja complete the campaign undefeated in both the league and the domestic cup, winning both competitions.
Despite his famous achievement, the Schwandorf native called time on his career with the north African giants late last month, leaving the Moroccan champions to go coach Saudi Pro League side Al Wehda.
Raja's interim president, Adel Hala, has now pulled the curtain back on what led to the former Orlando Pirates boss leaving Casablanca.
"The first problem with Zinnbauer is that he went on vacation, and the agreement was that he would join the group before traveling to Tunisia," he said on Radio Mars.
"During his vacation, he told us that he was not ready to return to Morocco, and that he had some offers, and that he, in turn, did not know what he wanted to do.
"Before the end of last season, Zinnbauer started looking with us for players who could be contracted in the summer transfer window, and most of the names we have contracted with now were at his request.
"During his vacation, he stopped talking to us about the future of the club, and his talk was only about his financial situation.

"Frankly, our current financial capabilities do not allow us to contract with a world-class coach and give him a salary of 50, 60 or 100 million. This is illogical."
