The signing of Gaston Sirino might be an exciting one for Kaizer Chiefs supporters, but the South American player will have a lot to prove as Amakhosi have not had so much luck with players who have joined them from Mamelodi Sundowns in recent years.
Sirino is expected to be announced on a two-year deal after he parted ways with Sundowns at the end of last season. The Uruguayan has been keeping fit while waiting for a club and it appears his search is finally over, with Amakhosi engaging him over a two-year deal.

The player has already been to Naturena, with pictures circulating on social media. All that's left now is for the Soweto giants to announce the 33-year-old.
The challenge Amakhosi will have is waiting to see if the player can produce the same magic he did in the early parts of his Sundowns spell. Chiefs have previously signed Ramahlwe Mphahlele, Leonardo Castro and Khama Billiat from Sundowns in recent years and all these players were unable to live up to expectations in the colours of Chiefs.
While there were glimpses of the brilliance they displayed at Sundowns, all three players were unable to reproduce the fine form they did at Chloorkop, which should be a concern for Chiefs as they welcome Sirino.

Sirino came to South Africa in 2018 while Pitso Mosimane was head coach and was arguably one of their best players. Over the last few years, for different reasons, he has not been able to play his football. There was a time he was sidelined at Sundowns when he was linked with a move to Al Ahly and another time when he was just not getting into the team on a regular basis.
Could his best years be behind him? Only time will tell.
