The story
Former Stellenbosch FC central defender, Olwethu Makhanya, took to Instagram to share his Arsenal Vs Liverpool matchday experience at the home of NFL team, the Philadelphia Eagles.
The Philadelphia Union youngster was part of the 69 679-strong crowd at the Lincoln Financial Field, to watch Arne Slot's Liverpool beat Premier League rivals Arsenal 2-1.
Makhanya witnessed goals from Liverpool talisman Mohamed Salah and young attacker, Fabio Carvalho, with the Gunners' consolation coming curtesy of a Kai Havertz close-range finish.
With a host of elite ballers on display, guided by two highly-rated tacticians, the game most likely gave Makhanya a solid dose of inspiration, that will hold him in good stead as he aims to solidify a place in Philadelphia Union's MLS team.
The 20-year-old joined Phili in 2023 and is yet to make an MLS appearance this season, featuring on 13 occasions in the MLS Next Pro. (MLS reserve league).
