Shock reports have suggested that Manchester United included a controversial clause in their agreement to sell 22-year-old striker Mason Greenwood.

According to The Telegraph, the Red Devils will have the option to buy their former academy graduate back in the future as part of their agreement to sell him to Olympique Marseille.
Greenwood joined the French outfit last week in a deal reportedly worth €31.6 million (R628.2 million), and has been given their No. 10 jersey ahead of the coming season.
While the buyback clause fee is unknown, it is also said that United are unlikely to ever trigger the option to re-sign him given his controversial past.
After being arrested in January 2022, Greenwood was later charged with attempted rape, engaging in controlling behaviour and assault, although those charges were dropped little more than a year later after key witnesses withdrew their testimony.
United did reportedly plan to reintroduce the forward to their senior group last year, before online backlash led to a reversal of that decision.
He was thus loaned out to Getafe in Spain last season, and won the LALIGA club's Player of the Season award.

Greenwood contributed to 16 goals in 36 matches across all competition in Spain, and will be hoping to build on that momentum in Ligue 1.
