Netherlands international Donny van de Beek has communicated that he will be leaving Old Trafford in his most recent Instagram post.

He captioned the post: "Dear Manchester United family. Today is a memorable day as my adventure at the club comes to an end. I want to thank you all for your support throughout the years. From the moment we arrived at Manchester United, we felt extremely welcome and we grateful for that. Thank you to everyone at the club for making us feel at home."

The announcement comes a day after transfer expert Fabrizio Romano revealed that the Red Devils had agreed a fee to sell the Dutchman to LALIGA outfit Girona.

The 27-year-old joined the record Premier League champions at a fee of €39 million (R763 million), but it is reported that the Netherlands international will be leaving at a fraction of that price, with the recently qualified UEFA Champions League side said to be paying a fixed fee of just €500 000 (R9.7 million) for the playmaker's signature.

Having arrived at the Theatre of Dreams off the back of an impressive spell with Ajax Amsterdam, Van De Beek's time in Manchester was not as pleasant.

After joining the Red Devils in 2020, the Nijkerkerveen native played only 62 matches in all competitions for the Mancunian outfit, and was loaned out twice, first to Everton at the beginning of 2022, and then to Eintracht Frankfurt at the beginning of this year.

He now bids farewell to the English heavyweights permanently, with Romano stating that Van De Beek will sign a contract with Girona until 2028.

The news comes shortly after it was rumoured that United had also accepted a bid from Olympique Marseille that will see Mason Greenwood move to the Ligue 1 outfit.
