According to the Daily Mail, the Clarets have identified former Fulham boss Scott Parker as Kompany's successor after the Belgian agreed to join the Bavarians in May.
Several managers have been linked with the vacant position at Burnley, including ex-Manchester United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy, while it was also claimed that Kompany's former assistant Craig Bellamy had applied for the role.
It is now said Burnley are "close" to appointing Parker, who has been without a job since leaving Belgian side Club Brugge in 2023.
Despite his difficult time in the Belgian Pro League, the 43-year-old did have success in the EFL Championship with Bournemouth and Fulham, leading both clubs to promotion to the EPL.
Former Chelsea coach Frank Lampard was also reportedly discussed as a candidate for the Burnley job before those talks eventually fell through.
Questions remain over Foster's future at the club following their relegation last season, with the striker having been linked with teams in the Premier League.
