Tso: They Have Lost Chiefs As A Whole

Tso: They Have Lost Chiefs As A Whole

He may not have donned the famous gold and black jersey of Kaizer Chiefs during his playing days, but Benedict Vilakazi has analysed Amakhosi well enough to know what the problem at the club is.

Chiefs have gone nine years without a major trophy in the cabinet and have changed coaches more times than they would have in the past.

Players have come and gone and few make an impact at the club. There are big concerns, but also hope that incoming coach, said to be Nasreddine Nabi, will finally end the years of heartache that the Amakhosi faithful have had to endure.

Vilakazi is a man who grew up supporting Chiefs but ended up donning the famous black and white jersey of Orlando Pirates.

"I want to make an example. When (Patrice) Motsepe took over at Sundowns, he was buying players and everyone was saying money can't buy you success. While Sundowns are busy doing that, they (Chiefs) forgot to work and to build their team. That's why you find Chiefs struggling. They have lost their culture, their philosophy and their way of playing. They've lost Kaizer Chiefs as a whole. You can't say it's money, money, money," Vilakazi told media during a Betway 12th man event held in Johannesburg earlier this week.

"If you don't have money to challenge them (Sundowns), why can't you take whatever money you have and go to development. That's why I say they forget what made them to be great. It's their development. Check the history of Chiefs and Pirates and they will tell you. When Chiefs and Pirates players used to come from the development, they would shine. This thing of Sundowns buying players is not something new. I grew up knowing that Sundowns used to buy top players, so it's not something new. The only thing Sundowns missed, and they are now back in it, is their culture. They went back to their culture of 'shoeshine and piano'."
