Barcelona icon Lionel Messi has revealed who his fiercest Real Madrid rival was during the many ElClasicos he played in.

Throughout his 18-year senior career in Europe, the diminutive attacker played against Los Merengues 47 times, and fortunately for him, he was on the winning team more often than not.
Messi played in some iconic ElClasicos during his time with the Blaugrana, with the prevailing storyline for a lot of those encounters being the battle between the Argentine and Cristiano Ronaldo.

The two legends were the main protagonists in what can perhaps be considered Spain's biggest fixture, but when asked recently about who his fiercest rival was during those matches between Barca and Real, Messi did not mention the Portuguese.
Instead, the eight-time Ballon d'Or winner mentioned another player who can also be considered a Madrid legend, Sergio Ramos.
Speaking on his nephew's YouTube show, called Dispuestos A Todo, the 2022 FIFA World Cup winner said: "We fought a lot with Sergio Ramos. We later became teammates, but (before) in the Clasicos, we always grabbed each other. The Clasicos were intense."

The tension between them would cool when the duo surprisingly became teammates from 2021 to 2023, when they were both at Paris Saint-Germain. They played a total of 46 times together during their time in the French capital, before both ultimately departed at the end of the 2022/23 campaign.
