Kaizer Chiefs are looking to solve their goalscoring problems by targeting out-of-contract Bafana Bafana striker Lebo Mothiba, after he was initially not in the running, according to insiders privy to information.
The 28-year-old's contract with French Ligue 1 side Racing Strasbourg recently expired, making him a free agent but Mothiba is not the Glamour Boys' only target, the Siya crew understands.

Siya sources close to the club have indicated how Mothiba wasn't on Amakhosi's transfer shortlist, but his availability has now piqued their interest.
"There are a number of players that the team has listed down as targets for next season. At first Lebo (Mothiba) was not on that list but when they got the news that he was a free agent they added him to that list of players. It's not just strikers," said the Siya source.
The insider went on to discuss how Mothiba fits into Chiefs' general plans during this winter.
"There are other departments as well but he is one of the strikers that the team wants to consider for next season. It's relatively new and those responsible for transfers are working on that just as they are working on the coaches right now," the source added.
A second Siya source discussed how Chiefs are keen to bring experience into their squad to complement their young talent, and Mothiba fits the bill in the same way Amakhosi had brought in famous Bafana stars from abroad when they were last winning trophies.
"They did that with Bernard Parker, Tsepo Masilela and Siboniso Gaxa. They want to bring in experienced players who can work well with the youngsters and help the team achieve things from this coming season," the second source stated.
Mothiba spent six years at Racing Strasbourg, scoring 20 goals in close to a century of matches. He also had a loan spell during his time with French club Troyes where he scored two goals in 14 matches.
Any move for Mothiba becomes a question of affordability for PSL clubs, and the Siya crew had previously reported how Mamelodi Sundowns are most likely to be able to keep up with his wages. The Brazilians have been further boosted with their financial rewards from the African Football League and qualifying for the upcoming Fifa Club World Cup. Though, since there won't be a signing on fee to pay to a European club, Chiefs are in the equation too, according to insiders.
The Siya crew had reported how another South Africa forward, Percy Tau could also be closely followed by both Chiefs and Sundowns.
Soccer Laduma contacted Chiefs for comment, but no response was received at the time of publication.
