Man Utd Transfer News: 10 Out?

Man Utd Transfer News: 10 Out?

Manchester United finished the season with an FA Cup trophy this past weekend, but big squad changes are still expected at the Red Devils. Here are 10 players who could leave the club in the upcoming transfer window, with three departures already confirmed.

Just as Erik ten Hag's future at Old Trafford hangs in the balance despite United's FA Cup final victory Manchester City at Wembley Stadium on Saturday, so do the futures of a number of the club's players. Although the departures of Raphael Varane and Alvaro Fernandez have already been announced, it appears they won't be the only players bidding farewell to Old Trafford.

French forward Anthony Martial, like Varane, will see his deal in England officially expire next month unless the club triggers the option they have to extend his stay by another 12 months. Reports have suggested it is unlikely the 28-year-old is kept on following his last few seasons in England, with United set to save £250 000 (R5.8 million) in wages weekly if they cut ties with the ex-Monaco wonderkid, who has scored 90 goals in nine years in red, black and white.

Experienced centre-back Jonny Evans is another first-team player expected to say goodbye to the Red Devils, after returning to the club in 2023 on a one-year deal. The Northern Ireland international was thought to have been brought back as an emergency option, but ended the season with 30 appearances to his name due to injuries to Varane, Lisandro Martinez and Harry Maguire.

Goalkeeper Tom Heaton's deal also expires next month, while Morocco international Sofyan Amrabat is expected to return to Fiorentina when his loan deal runs out in June. The African international impressed in United's FA Cup final triumph over the Citizens this past weekend, but there is no indication yet that the 20-time English champions will exercise their option to buy the 27-year-old. The midfielder endured an underwhelming campaign following his anticipated arrival from Italy, playing just 932 minutes of league football.

Questions, meanwhile, remain over playmaker Christian Eriksen's future in England. The Denmark legend has hinted at wanting to play more football, having often found himself on the bench in the second half of this past season. Eriksen joined United as a free agent in 2022 and has been frustrated with his lack of minutes this term, perhaps particularly due to the team's midfield troubles. Ten of his 22 league appearances came from the bench, while he was an unused substitute on 11 occasions too.

There is also uncertainty surrounding winger Antony at the moment after he scored just three goals in 38 games this season. The 24-year-old has just 11 strikes in 82 appearances for United since his big-money arrival from Ajax Amsterdam in 2022, and could be a player the club seeks to get rid of, particularly in the event that new co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his staff, who are reportedly conducting an end-of-campaign review, decide to part ways with Ten Hag. The Dutchman was believed to have requested his signing following his appointment two years ago, with the majority of United fans disappointed with how things have turned out.

Finally, it is possible that both Jadon Sancho and Mason Greenwood are sold in the coming window. The former is set to return to England following a six-month loan spell at UEFA Champions League finalists Borussia Dortmund, but his soured relationship with Ten Hag could mean a new solution is found regarding his future. The winger has performed inconsistently for the Red Devils when he has been given a chance, although he could be in line for another opportunity should Ten Hag depart. For Greenwood, the 22-year-old's loan spell at Getafe in Spain has come to an end, but reports suggest the one-time England international still has no future at Old Trafford.
