Rumours have been rife surrounding the teenage sensation, with links to Wolverhampton Wanderers where he had a brief assessment, Al Ahly and Red Bull Salzburg all doing the rounds.
Now, since then, according to the Scottish Sun, Premiership runners-up Rangers have taken the lead for Mofokeng's signature.
It is unclear at this point what exactly has given the side coached by Philippe Clement the edge over his other suitors, as Siya sources indicated that Rangers had not been aware of the teenager despite the recent links in the media.
A large part of this was due to the unavailability of footage on Mofokeng, something that would ideally be available on the Wyscout platform, though the Premier Soccer League have no partnership with the Italian-based platform, meaning that footage from Mofokeng's breakout 2023/24 season is not available for teams abroad.
Mofokeng has enjoyed a stellar campaign in which he contributed 10 goals (four goals and six assists) in 36 appearances for coach Jose Riveiro's side.
Of his appearances this season, 25 has come as a starter, while his bright performances have seen him being included in coach Hugo Broos' preliminary Bafana Bafana squad to face Nigeria and Zimbabwe in FIFA World Cup qualifiers in June.
