According to RMC Sport, the Ligue 1 giants believe Napoli winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia is an ideal replacement for the 25-year-old France captain.
Mbappe is expected to pen a lucrative deal with Los Blancos in the coming weeks after PSG crashed out of the UEFA Champions League at the semi-final stage on Tuesday.
Should the transfer be completed, the forward will move to the 14-time European champions as a free agent following a seven-year stay at PSG, for whom he scored a club-record 255 goals in 306 appearances.
It is said head coach Luis Enrique wants the French side to pursue a deal for Kvaratskhelia, a Georgia international, with the player's camp reported to have shown a mutual interest in a switch to Paris.
The 23-year-old enjoyed an outstanding breakthrough campaign in Italy in the 2022/23 season as Napoli won Serie A, contributing to 31 goals in 43 matches.
This time out, the winger has played a hand in 19 strikes in 42 appearances in a sobering season for Gli Azzurri, who are currently on course to miss out on European football altogether.
