Chivaviro Brace Not Enough To Hand Chiefs Victory

Chivaviro Brace Not Enough To Hand Chiefs Victory

Ten-man Kaizer Chiefs and TS Galaxy shared the spoils in fiery 2-2 draw at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Tuesday night.

DStv Premiership

Result: Kaizer Chiefs 1-1 TS Galaxy

Date: 07 May 2024

Venue: Peter Mokaba Stadium

Chiefs made six changes following their big defeat against Mamelodi Sundowns, as Edmilson Dove, Dillan Solomons, Njabulo Ngcobo, Sibongiseni Mthethwa, Mduduzi Shabalala and Ranga Chivaviro were recalled.

Galaxy opened the Amakhosi defence in the early stages as Sphiwe Mahlangu came close to giving them the lead with a close-range shot that was saved by goalkeeper Bruce Bvuma in a one-on-one.

The Glamour pressed the Rockets high and on 18 minutes capitalized on their press after Chivaviro dispossessed Mpho Mvelase in the six-yard box and fired a shot past the helpless Fiacre Ntwari.

The home side, however, shot themselves in the foot on the half-hour mark after a handball by Dove was penalized and Sphiwe Mahlangu levelled matters for Galaxy from the spot-kick.

Cavin Johnson's charges were spirited going forward and five minutes before the break Ngcobo came close with a first-time strike shot unmarked in the box that produced great reflexes from Ntwari.

Galaxy played an open game and gained a numerical advantage on the stroke of half-time after Chiefs were reduced to ten men following a second yellow card of Dove, who was sent off.

Amakhosi had a perfect start in the second stanza as five minutes from the interval Chivaviro restored their lead and got his brace with a low strike from a set-piece routine.

Chiefs were threatening going forward even though they were a man down and just after the hour-mark, Frosler almost made it 3-1 with a deflected shot that was brilliantly saved by Ntwari.

However, the Glamour Boys started to sit deep after that and with 14 minutes left, the Rockets eventually caught them disorganized from a corner after Sphiwe Mahlangu headed home a cross by Higor Vidal and also completed his brace.

Chiefs had a big chance five minutes before time after Chivaviro curled a shot narrowly wide unmarked in the box.

Amakhosi had substitute goalkeeper Brandon Petersen red-carded for remonstrating on the bench, as the game ended all square.
