Palmer Nets Four As Chelsea Hit Everton For Six

Palmer Nets Four As Chelsea Hit Everton For Six

Cole Palmer netted four goals as Chelsea thrashed Everton 6-0 in Premier League action on Monday night.

Premier League

Result: Chelsea 6-0 Everton

Date: 15 April 2024

Venue: Stamford Bridge

The Blues made just two changes from the draw with Sheffield United as Malu Gusto and Mykhailo Murdyk were recalled in place of Alex Disasi and Enzo Fernandez.

The Toffees should have opened the scoring after ten minutes when Seamus Coleman did well to pick out Beto in the box, but the Portuguese striker failed to direct his on target from close range.

The visitors were made to rue that miss as Cole Palmer opened the scoring for the Blues three minutes later after combining with Nicolas Jackson before curling one into the bottom corner from the edge of the box.

The lead was doubled in the 18th minute, with Palmer getting his second goal by nodding the ball home from close range after Jackson's initial shot was saved by goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.

Pickford didn't cover himself in glory ten minutes later when he gifted the ball straight to Palmer outside his box, which allowed the English forward to lob into an open net from 25 yards out.

There was enough time for the Blues to grab a fourth goal on the stroke of halftime when Marc Cucurella latched onto Palmer's neat pass before picking out Jackson, who volleyed past Pickford.

While Everton initially looked more solid in the second half, the Blues were awarded a penalty in the 60th minute for a foul on Noni Madueke. After some arguments between Jackson and Madueke about who would be taking, Palmer stepped up and calmly slotted home his fourth goal on the night.

There was no response from Sean Dyche's men for the remainder of the second half, as they had a night to forget and are only two points above the relegation zone.

Chelsea, meanwhile, went on to grab a sixth goal in the 90th minute as substitute  Alfie Gilchrist scored two minutes after his arrival with a neat finish at the far post.
