With Xavi having announced his impending departure from the Blaugrana, several managers have been linked with the 2022/23 LALIGA champions.
Liverpool's Jurgen Klopp has been named as a potential candidate despite his desire for a break from football, while former Germany boss Hansi Flick is also reportedly being considered as a replacement.
This week, though, rumours have suggested that Mourinho, who was recently sacked by Roma and coached Real Madrid between 2010 and 2013, might be of interest to the club.
However, Barca sporting director Deco has insisted he has not communicated with his ex-Chelsea manager in a long while.
"He is a great friend of mine but I haven't talked with him in a long time," he told Esport3.
"We're looking for a manager who can adapt to the club's situation and that can keep developing the young players we have."
Mourinho's first experience in Europe's top leagues was working as a translator for Sir Bobby Robson and Louis van Gaal at Barcelona between 1996 and 2000.
