Broos: Mudau Injury Not A Good Sign

However, the injury of fullback Khuliso Mudau, sustained against the Carthage Eagles has concerned coach Hugo Broos who hopes it's not too serious.

"I don't know, we have to wait until tomorrow (Thursday). The fact that Khuliso (Mudau) was to go out is not a good sign. Let's hope for the best," Broos told the media after the game.

Mudau was taken off at half-time by the coach and replaced by Nyiko Mobbie and limped uncomfortably after the conclusion of the match.

As of now, Bafana won't be in action until next Tuesday when they face pre-tournament favourites Morocco in the last 16 who they had met in the Afcon qualifiers too.

During the qualifiers, the Atlas Lions bagged the first win on home soil but Bafana won the return fixture at FNB Stadium in Johannesburg.

For midfield ace Themba Zwane, the brief recess will be good because it will allow them to regenerate and he believes the team have the capacity to go beyond the last 16.

"First of all, the rest will be good for us to try and bring the quality back and in terms of quality we have shown the quality that we have and the quality to compete and try to push ourselves.

"As a team, we knew it was going to be difficult and psychical because we had analysed them. So, we had to fight as a team and stand up for ourselves and try to fight and it's what we did as a team. At the same time, we wanted to avoid unnecessary yellow cards and tried to be calm but continued to fight," Zwane told the media in the press conference post-match.

"I mean, we play in the Champions League and we know the level is high here and we can compete going forward in the tournament," he added.

The last time Bafana were in the tournament, they needed a spot as one of the third-best placed teams from the group stages to secure a spot in the knockout stages in Egypt 2019.

In that edition, Bafana stunned the host nation to advance to the quarter-finals where they had exited at the hands of Nigeria.
