Ever since news emerged that the Nigerian marksman was unhappy with Napoli over the controversial TikTok video they posted seemingly mocking him, speculation has been rampant over a potential departure for the Lagos native.
Leading the charge for teams that appeared likely to sign the 24-year-old were the Blues. The west Londoners have been struggling for goals this season and multiple reports have claimed that the club saw Osimhen as the man who could be the catalyst for an ascent back up the Premier League table.
Rumours suggested that Chelsea were even willing to break their transfer record once again to land the recently crowned 2023 CAF Men's Player of the Year's signature.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, however, the two-time European champions have had a spanner thrown into their work to sign the prolific marksman as he claims that the Super Eagles attacker and the Serie A champions have reached an agreement in principle over a one-year extension on his current deal.
It is said this new deal will run until June 2026, and will likely have a release clause in the region of €130 million (R2.6 billion) inserted into it.

Osimhen arrived in Naples from Lille in September 2020, and while Napoli paid a club transfer record of €80 million (R1.6 billion) for his services, his form at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium since has justified the price tag, with Gli Azzurri expected to make a healthy profit on their history-maker should any team decide to trigger his release clause.
